Affordable Social Housing Plan

The Warburton Advancement League include personnel from ADRA who have clearly and succinctly identified a significant need for a greater number of social and affordable housing options in the Upper Yarra.

A working group was formed in 2021 to develop solutions that can provide greater social housing stock in our area to meet this need and to be able to work within the current planning frameworks.

The most cost-effective method of achieving this Social and Affordable Housing concept will be establishing a new Residential Land Leas, which can comply within the existing planning rules and not require any subdivisions or consolidations.

Cerini Centre Project

The Cerini Centre Affordable Social Housing project was formed with members of the Warburton Advancement League and the Sacred Heart Parish to use land owned by the parish to build social housing in Warburton.

The group has worked tirelessly to create a plan to build 12 to 15 two and three bedroom house on the land. The work has faced many challenges and sadly there are still more to come, despite this some consider that this is the most advanced and creative plan for social housing in Victoria. It provides a pathway for other social housing initiatives to move ahead.

The Cerini Centre walk

The Cerini Walk was successful as over a hundred people walked from Millgrove to the Cerini Centre in Warburton. But the true measure of the success of this walk will be a change in hearts, a change in attitude and the start of a movement to address homelessness.
